MONDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2021
THEME: SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS 2
PASSAGE: 2 CORINTHIANS 3:9-18
MEMORY VERSE: 2Corinthians 3:14″ But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains uplifted in the reading of the Old Testament because the veil is taken away in Christ.”
HYMN: MHB 336 (22.214.171.124. and refrain) – IN loving-kindness Jesus came.
Apostle Paul contrasts the “old way” (the law, as engraved on the stone tablets) to life in the Holy Spirit (the new way). Notwithstanding that the old way is glorious, as it was God’s own provision, the new way is much more glorious, with the Holy Spirit being the Power behind every Christian’s rebirth and strength to carry on in the footsteps of Christ Jesus.
However, until this day, many Christian minds are still blinded in “Moses’ veil” that has been taken away in Christ, as they struggle to be saved by keeping the law. In the process, they get tied up in rules and ceremonies. This is opposed to the provision of freedom from sin and condemnation through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:1).
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour, He embraces us in love and gives us the Holy Spirit; and “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). It is the Holy Spirit that helps us to continually learn of the truth about Christ, which transforms our lives and living. That way, obedience to God’s commandments becomes our way of life as we move from glory to glory. The righteous requirement of the law is then fulfilled in us “who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:4).
Beloved, let us do away with every spiritual blindness and come into the ever-shining light of the Lord, Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.”
PRAYER: O LORD, our God, remove every veil from our eyes and minds, and grant us the grace to walk no more according to the flesh but according to the Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
