MESSAGE
Relying on his growing power and influence which had seen him annexing neighbouring countries, Sennacherib besieged Judah. His domineering power was enough to send shivers in the spine of any king or nation he confronted. Strangely, however, King Hezekiah was not moved by the siege and planned onslaught of King Sennacherib. What would have informed such a stance by King Hezekiah?
While in consultation with his Princes, King Hezekiah put in place some strategies, but had his faith firmly anchored on God (V. 7 – 😎. He did not rely on any human weapon to defeat the vicious warrior-king and his multitude of armies. Sennacherib depended on the arm of flesh – power, soldiers and weapons but Hezekiah depended on God to fight his battles.
Like King Sennacherib, some people around us can be very powerful and intimidating. As God’s children we daily see and experience the threatenings of the people around us. But, we must, as Hezekiah did, see beyond the arm of flesh. Having God on our side, we are more than the world and any weapon it can muster. With the Lord on his side, the Psalmist clearly declares “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around” (Ps. 3: 6).
Are you besieged by any intimidating situation? Are you feeling helpless over some issues around you? Rest on God’s Word, just as Hezekiah rested on God’s Words. The battle is not yours, but the Lord’s (1 Sam. 17: 47). With Him victory is sure!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in You I put my confidence; defend me and let me not be put to shame in Jesus’ name.
