MESSAGE
Apostle Paul, preparing Timothy for the great work, told him what it takes to be a good minister of God. They include guarding the true doctrine; giving no room to fables and endless genealogies; having genuine faith, avoiding sin; being honest and faithful; studying the Word; being pure; reading Christian literature, exhortation and doctrine; Being blameless before God; avoiding fleshy lusts; etc.
The gospel is worthy of acceptance by everyone. Faith in Christ, as explained in the gospel, is required from everyone. Scripture teaches it to be so. Paul the Apostle warned Timothy about the heretical teachings of his days that forbid and reject what God has established (1Timothy 4:1 – 5).
Timothy was also strongly warned and advised by Paul to hold fast to the teachings and doctrine of Jesus Christ, and to be teaching the household of faith whole heartedly through which he himself will be well-equipped and seen as the faithful servant of Christ.
In the world today, different teachings are floating everywhere. Some churches are not left out of these unworthy teachings that do not go with the faith as we received it from the apostles of Christ and church fathers of the early church.
People of God, we are in the end time already. Let us flee from fake doctrines that have crept into Christendom. There are also men and women who are in the gospel ministry because of their bellies and the money they will make rather than winning souls for Christ. Only recently, some pastors were reported to have duped their Church members of large sums of money.
Godliness is re-emphasized as profitable in all things (Verse 8b). Are you Godly? Is your life holy? Can we find Christ’s righteousness in you? Does your character portray Christ? Think about these questions and determine how to start living a life that portrays Christ’s gospel which is worthy of all acceptance.
PRAYER: Almighty and everlasting God, don’t allow me to be a disappointment to You, but profitable through Christ my Saviour. Amen.
