Daily Reflection: Why Doing it Alone? – Tuesday 10th July, 2018

TEXT: EXODUS 18:13-26
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Tim. 2:12 “If we suffer, we shall also
reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us”
God appointed Moses to rule over the people and also to judge them. However, the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:10b that “wisdom is profitable to direct”. Yes, Moses had the responsibility but did not apply wisdom. He immersed himself in the business of attending to people and was suffering many things. Because of this, he had no time for himself; no time to eat, refresh, and renew his spiritual life and no time to attend to his family. He probably was spending more time on things that could have been handled by others, for him, and was also becoming unproductive. He needed to delegate power but had failed to do that and law of diminishing returns in economics was coming upon him. That made Jethro his father-in-law to offer him a sound piece of advice.

Very many businesses and churches are suffering from this same syndrome. If, for instance, the President has to do the work of every cabinet member, will he not wear out? If the minister does the work of the Welfare unit, property stewards and even makes himself the treasurer of the church, he will not last on the job. Though the reason some of these happen is because of the trepid attitude of some Church Officers. Everyone in the work of the Lord must delegate power or assign people to assist in the work of the ministry. In Acts 6, when the responsibilities of the Apostles grew, they had to look for people to take up the work of administration, so that they would devote themselves to the ministry of the Word.

No leader can succeed alone. No one can work without assistance or be all-in-all. There must be team work. The Church Minister must have stewards, ushers, choir, prayer group, etc, to assist in moving the church forward. He cannot do the job alone. Doing the work of everybody will surely lead to failure, tiredness and, perhaps, death. May the Lord help us and send us those who will help us succeed in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER: Lord, send to me those who will help me to fulfil my destiny and achieve full purpose for Your Kingdom in Jesus’ name. Amen.
