Daily Reflection: THE LIFE BOUY – Monday 23rd July, 2018

TEXT: ACTS 16:16-34
MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 16:31 – So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.

Man wants to be saved from danger, sickness and diseases; from death and a wasted life. The various answers or solutions proffered over the ages have resulted in the different religious and traditional practices in the society today. The Philippian jailer was overwhelmed by the miraculous events which he witnessed in the prison and could not help asking what he should do to be saved from a life wasted in false beliefs and to embrace the truth.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31) was the precise answer given by Paul and Silas. The answer sounds very simple but its truth is absolute and its attendant effect is profound. Paul, in Romans 1:16, says this simple fact, “is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” The simplicity of this solution to the quest for salvation has made many people to miss the way. There are people who believe that salvation must involve some type of works, ritual and observance and that is why people still get involved in fetish rituals and practices today. The works that Jesus Christ did, in the way He lived and died, earned us our salvation. We do not and cannot work for our salvation. We are saved by simply believing that Jesus shed His blood to pay the penalty for our sins and, in so believing, we surrender our lives to Him as our personal Lord and Saviour.

Let us do self-examination and ask ourselves if we can make heaven in case death comes or Jesus returns today. Are there things in our lives which hinder us from making heaven? The good news, sisters and brothers, is that we can take the step towards our salvation right now. The Bible says that “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9). Don’t delay. Act now.

PRAYER: Save me, Lord, and lead me on the path of righteousness.
