Daily Reflection: CALLED TO WALK ON WATER – Sunday 12th August, 2018

TEXT: MATTHEW 14:22-33
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 14 “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”

Called to walk on water is a very suitable topic for today. While the disciples were at sea, a storm broke out and the wind was contrary to them. Amidst this, Jesus appeared walking on the sea and Peter requested that he be permitted to do the same. After he entered and was walking on the sea the waves of the sea harassed him and he feared and started sinking and he called to Jesus for help and was saved.

You may blame Peter for trying to walk on water but note that Jesus asked him to come. Remember that the waves were still on when Jesus told him to come. This is the same way our Christian life is. We come to Christ amidst troubles and challenges, we try to approach Jesus in the midst of our challenges, but before we get to the Lord or get our answers, we give in and succumb to the waves that were there to sink us. Peter lost focus on Jesus and looked at the waves and he began to sink. The same way we lose our focus on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, and we begin to sink in our problems as well.

The waves were still there when he left the boat, so why did he fear after launching out? Why did he not keep going? That is actually how it happens to us. Rather than keeping our eyes on Christ, we look at other things around us. We see failure, discouragement, attacks and problems when we lose focus of Christ. When we are called to walk on waters (problems and challenges), let us keep looking on Jesus. Surely we will get to our destinations. God bless you.

PRAYER: Lord as I walk on the troubled waters of life and ministry, make me to stay focused on You alone till the end, I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
