Daily Reflection: THE VITAL THING – Friday 21st December, 2018

FRIDAY 21ST DECEMBER, 2018
THEME: THE VITAL THING
TEXT: PSALM 34: 1-22
MEMORY VERSE: Ps. 34: 1-3 “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”

This psalm was probably a song of deliverance of David when he changed his behaviour before Abimeleck in order to spare his life (1 Sam. 21:10-15). The summary of the reasons for praising God could be seen in vs. 22, in which he says the Lord redeems the soul of His servants. And none of those who trust in Him will be disappointed. True. This belief was very strong in the heart of the psalmist. What about you?

I pray that the Lord will miraculously deliver those caught in the traps of the enemies in Jesus name. As children of the Most High God, we must believe that whatever our challenges may be, the Omnipotent God will surely deliver us if we trust Him.

Our praising God should not be confined to a specific time and place of worship. The life of a child of God should be a life of constant flow of praises and worship for God irrespective of where we are or what confronts us. Note what God says about the life of the wicked in vs. 16 & 21 and identify the benefits for those who seek, fear and trust the Lord in vs.7, 8, 9 and 10. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of true wisdom. Do not dismiss His instruction and teaching with a wave of the hand for He watches closely and rewards each person according to his deeds. The vital thing is, worship Him in truth and holiness.

The psalmist, speaking from experience, also gives us the secrets of long life, which include freedom from worry, want, fear, troubles and evil. Only God is our Redeemer.

HYMN: EMHB 682 – GOD OF PITY, GOD OF GRACE,
PRAYER: Lord, help me to develop the habit of praising You at all times whether in joy or sorrow and let those who daily expect my downfall be put to shame in Jesus’ name. Amen.
