TEXT: Psalm 25: 15-22
15. Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net. 16. Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted. 17. The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses. 18. Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins. 19. Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred. 20. O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee. 21. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee. 22. Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Human beings are faced with one challenge or the other ranging from distress, oppression, affliction, pain and agony as was the case of David in the Psalm before us. He presented his case before God believing that God would intervene in the matter. He says in verse 2 “Let me not be put to shame” for he needed immediate intervention from God.

To petition God is not to sue Him to court or subject Him to questioning; rather, it is to present your situation to him and cry for help, for God has listening ears. No one can save us from distress, oppression and challenges except God who has overcome the world for us.

Jesus also admonishes us not to relent in prayers but constantly make our petitions known to Him. In Luke 18:1-8 Jesus spoke of the parable of the persistent widow who got vindicated by the unrighteous judge after a lot of persistent appeals to him. Jesus concluded by saying that if the judge could eventually help the woman, how much more will God vindicate His own who cry to Him day and night. Nothing is too small or too big to present before God. In that your present situation, petition God and you will be glad you did.

1: WHAT a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2: Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

3: Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee.
Thou wilt find a solace there.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 25: 16 “Turn to me and be gracious to me for I am lonely and afflicted.”

PRAYER: Hear my cry in the days of my affliction and plead my cause before my adversary, my Lord and my Redeemer. Amen.
