DAILY REFLECTION: HAVE A CLEAR CONSCIENCE – WEDNESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER, 2019

Wednesday 6th November, 2019

Theme:   Have A Clear Conscience

Passage: Romans 13: 1- 10

Conscience is the faculty by which human beings comprehend the moral demands of God. It judges the action of man either good or bad. It causes man pain when he falls short of the standard of God and commends one’s action when it is right.

The passage today sets before us the purpose for which civil government is instituted. Government has the purpose of making rules and regulations for security of life and property and for the peaceful co-existence of all citizens regardless of their religious and political affiliations. it is expedient for the citizens to pay tax; pray for leaders to serve as encouragement and to improve on implementation of policies that add value to life. If Government makes laws that undermine God and compel Christians to act against the faith, Christians have to obey God rather than men (Acts 4: 19).

The Bible, does not approve a corrupt government, ungodly officials, unjust legislation and cheating of masses. Instead, God, who is the author of peace and lover of concord, can allow, for a short time, evil rulers to have authority when citizens refused to heed His warning to punish them. God does this so that when they learn their lesson, the people will return back to Him. God commands the obedience of citizens to the rule of law of a nation. You should judge yourself (in your conscience) whether you are an obedient or a disobedient citizen.

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 13:5 “There you must be subject not only because of wrath but also for conscience sake”

HYMN: MHB 881 – LORD, while for all mankind we pray

PRAYER: Lord, endow the people of this nation to be good citizens who obey Your laws, obey the law of the land and guide our leaders to be obedient to Your directives, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
