Theme: Manifest Love
Passage: John 14:15-26
One of the ways to express your love for God is obedience. It is by obedience that Jesus showed God’s love to us Phil 2:8, and it is by our obedience that we will manifest our love for Jesus. Every believer obeys because he wants to please his Lord. Out of love comes obedience.
John in his first letter to all believers said, “He who says I know him and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in Him” 1 John 2:4. God will not only love obedient believers, he will take pleasure in loving them. They are partakers of the fellowship, and comfort of the Holy Spirit. The challenge we face in Christianity is the fact that many claim to know Christ, love Christ yet they willfully disobey his commands, living according to what is right by them and not in accordance with the word of God.
Living in total obedience to the word of God in our generation requires the constant presence of Holy Spirit in our lives. The spirit gives life (John 6:63); guides believers in all truth (John 16:13) and makes known all that is Christ’s (John 16:15). The Holy Spirit gives us God’s wisdom, counsel, knowledge and power. When we allow God to take charge in our life through obedience and love, everything will find its right balance.
MEMORY VERSE: John 14:23. “Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word; and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him”.
HYMN: MHB 432 – HARK, my soul! It is the Lord.
PRAYER: Help me to obey your command as a symbol of my love for you.
