Theme: He Knows You By Name

Passage: Psalm 147:1-7

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 147:4 “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.”

HYMN: MHB 421 – I am so glad that Jesus loves me!

God created us in His own image, but He uses our names to identify us. In every society, names are given as a mark of identification and confirmation of the person as a bona-fide citizen. This psalm focuses on the power and love of God in His creation. This post-exilic and His redemptive care for Israel, His people. Psalm would be after the return of the Jews from 70- years Babylonian exile during great feast of Terbanacles. The Jews had been taken into exile by the Assyrians (722/21BC) and by the Babylonians (586 B.C.) and were dispersed among nations. The psalmist gives thanks to God for gathering the remnants of all the 13 tribes including the Levites in order to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the city.

Today, this passage has taught us that God, most times, puts trials on our ways to really test our faith like Job. A song says “My God is able, and I know He is able to carry me through”. It may be that the situation you are presently in is causing you to be in derision, and you consider committing suicide. God is saying “my dear, be still and know who I am, your God”.

Are you troubled by hunger, rejections, enemies, etc.? God knows you by name. He knows what you are passing through. He is asking you today: Can you allow Me to come and take over your situation? Can you remember how God saved you from your mother’s womb up to this time? Can you let go the depression, hatred, and betrayal by friends, and focus on God? Remember, God can change that situation. Read verse 3 which says “God healed the broken hearted and bound up wounds. Though you might have been subdued by your superiors, God will lift you up, change your story for good and you will shine as light in Jesus’ name Amen.

PRAYER: O Lord, help me to know you more in Jesus’ name. Amen.
