MONDAY 20TH JANUARY, 2020
THEME: TIME TO MOVE
PASSAGE: EXODUS 33:1-23
HYMN: MHB 387- My God! I know, I feel Thee mine
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 33:1 Then the Lord sx you brought up of Egypt…..”
In the Passage for today, God commanded the Israelites to resume the journey to Canaan, but instead of leading them as promised, He promised to send an angel, because they were stiff-necked and He might not tolerate them while backsliding. This action amounted to God’s resignation which the Israelites rejected. Before God agreed to lead them again, they had to show signs of remorse.
The Israelites flagrantly disobey the law of God that they shall not make or worship any idol (Exodus20:3), they violated by making and worshipping a golden calf like the heathen. This gross unbelief shut the door to their entrance into the Promised Land. Consequently, the Lord made them realized that to move on was no time for festivities, levity or decorations. They must take the matter of this arduous journey seriously. The Lord never said that the Promised Land would be free of enemies but He did promise them victory over those enemies. We ought not to look back unless it is to derive useful lessons from past errors and for the purpose of profiting by dearly bought experiences.
We can clearly see here that when one commits sin, the person loses the grace and companionship of God. However, because God did not want to put Moses to shame as he interceded, God decided to move on with the people. But only two of those who left Egypt for Canaan – Joshua and Caleb – reached the Promise Land. The rest died in the wilderness.
If you want God to move on with you at all times, you must obey His commands, love what He loves and hate what He hates. To do otherwise is to incur His anger. We should learn a lot of lessons from this incident.
PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to press on and never to go back to my vomit any longer, until I lay my sword at your feet in thename of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
