THEME: Refresh And Be Refreshed

PASSAGE: Proverbs 11:23-31

HYMN: MHB 321- LORD, I hear of showers of blessing

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 11:25: “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

Sometimes in life, our day-to-day responsibilities can make living very hard and devastating for us. Life can be complex, full of hard times and disappointments, but if we hold on to God’s directives which may look or sound foolish, it works better for us.

In most cases, whenever you are in a terrible condition and confused, caring for others may be the remedy to the problems, hence the promise of God in Proverbs 11:26 as we read in our passage today that we can only be refreshed when we refresh others. God loves generosity for He is generosity personified and we do well when we imitate Him.

As parents, we know that our children may not always reciprocate the love and care we offer them, yet we hope that when they grow, we will reap the fruit of our labour. In our other relationships, the adults may not savy to mutual encouragement either; people can be strange and might not realize what good you did to them, but that should not discourage you from doing good always (verse 27). Verses 28 and 29 warn us dearly that no matter the situation we find ourselves in our families, we must persistently avoid trouble, stick to God and pursue righteousness.

Those who plant are the ones with expectation of harvest and whatever a man plants, that he shall reap in multiple fold. Remember that God loves a cheerful giver and that giving is receiving. Above all, as we carry out our daily activities today, let us strive to encourage others both physically and spiritually by winning souls as pointed in verse 30 and trusting God that we shall receive our due both on earth and in heaven.

PRAYER: Eternal Father, give me the grace to refresh people around me both spiritually and financially – let me be refreshed at all times in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
