THEME: Worthless Righteousness
PASSAGE: Isaiah 65:1-12
HYMN: MHB 576 -BE it my only wisdom here
MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 65:6 “Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay, yea, I will repay into their bosom.”
The Israelites were the elects of God, but they brought contempt to the divine grace and willfully turned away from God. They offered sacrifices to God, burnt incense upon altars of bricks instead of the approved places, provoked Him to anger, prepared tables for idols, forgot God’s holy mountain and did evil in the sight of the Almighty.
The Israelites thought that they were serving God but did it wrongly and this is, no doubt, unacceptable to Him.
In Isaiah 1:11-14, God declared that He was not interested in the hypocritical religious lives of the Israelites, because they were rebellious to Him and their hearts were far away from Him, despite their multitudes of worship and sacrifices.
Every righteousness devoid of obedience to God is worthless righteousness. Sacrifices and outward obedience cannot please the Lord Almighty. Man Can be deceived with outward appearance, but God cannot be deceived (1 Samuel 16:7). He looks at the heart of man.
God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “If My people that are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.” What a loving and compassionate God! He wants a broken spirit and contrite heart in order to intervene, forgive, heal and restore us back to our position of perfection in His presence.
Brethren, your righteousness becomes worthless, when God cannot recognize your righteousness; your holiness is nothing when God is not involved. Do away with things that may pull you away from God and focus on Him.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to live like You all the days of my life, in Jesus Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
