THEME: Believe And Live
PASSAGE: John 3:22-36
HYMN: MHB 548 -ALL things are possible to him
MEMORY VERSE: John 3:36 “He that believes on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
We have a lot of lessons to learn from the testimony of John the Baptist about Jesus in our passage today. John was informed by some of his disciples that the man who was baptized by him (John the Baptist) beyond River Jordan was baptizing people.
John replied to them that a man can receive nothing, except it is given him from heaven. He once again reminded them that he was not the Christ, but His forerunner. What an honest, trustworthy, humble and dependable man! Many pastors ascribe miracles done by God to themselves.
John did not envy the success of Jesus’ ministry. Many people today envy the success of their neighbours and business outfits and plan to bring them down by all means. Brothers even envy brothers. There are alleged cases of political killings in order to prevent opponents from reaching the top. John wanted Jesus “to increase while he (John) decreases (verse 30).” How many people can say that?
Above all, John did not hide that he believed in Jesus as the Son of God but also urged all to believe in Him. He echoed what Jesus said in verse 16 of the chapter that life eternal depends solely on believing in Jesus Christ.
Those who believe in Jesus Christ submit to His Lordship, surrender their lives to Him, trust Him with their lives, have faith in Him, hope in Him, spread the good-news without shame, live Christ-like lives and always will look forward to His second coming. If any of these is missing in your life as a believer, kindly ask God to strengthen your faith and increase in you.
Jesus is Life, the Truth, and the Redeemer. Believe and live. Totally surrender your Life to Him today and have a new life.
PRAYER: Lord, open up my heart to accept Your Word as being divine and final so that it might be activated to my benefit for eternal life in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
