MONDAY 24TH AUGUST, 2020
THEME: Do Not Fear
PASSAGE: Number 14:1–19
HYMN: 948- ABIDE with me, fast falls the eventide
MEMORY VERSE: Deuteronomy 7:18 “But do not be afraid of them, remember well what the Lord, your God, did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.”
Fear is an emotional feeling that indicates that something we do not like or expect is happening or about to happen. This could be from physical discomfort to emotional instability.
Over the ages, man has always been in a state of fear and the greatest fear is that of death. However, the Word of God has always provided the antidote for fear. The Word of God has always showed that trust in God or faith in Him is a very good antidote for fear.
Today the Word of the Lord is encouraging us to have faith in Him who can deliver us from all our fears wherever they exist.
The question of fears in all spheres of life is answered by faith in the capacity of God to protect or deliver the victim. Fear of the enemy around them paralyzed the Israelites, causing them to rebel rather than trust God for effective deliverance. In our everyday existence, events that elicit fear do occur. Fear of poverty, fear of ill-health, fear of the future, the fear of loss of earning or even the fear of death.
But when these fears do come as a challenge to our faith, let us rely on the promises of God. He says He will never leave His own nor forsake them (Isaiah 40:10ff). Our faith in the power and the ability of God to see us through all our challenges should remain steadfast in our minds (Rom 8:32 – 37). The Word of God in Num. 14:10b is ‘Do not be afraid.’ God is with you and all those who put their trust and hope in Him.
PRAYER: Lord, let all my enemies be ashamed and sore vexed. Let me not be afraid of the ungodly but to laugh them to scorn in Jesus’ name. Amen.
