THEME: Profound Confidence
PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 1:1–18
HYMN: MHB 917-ETERNAL, Father, strong to save
MEMORY VERSE: 2Timothy 1:12b “Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed; am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted into Him for that day.”
A friend once asked me why I take so much joy in Jesus. Then I asked him, “If you enter a room and see two men, one is sleeping and the other awake, and you greeted them which one would respond?” His answer, which was logical, was “The man that is awake.”
I then explained the teaching about the resurrection of Jesus. I told him that our faith is predicated on the resurrection of Jesus and that He is alive today and forever. Any time that I pray, I speak with Him who can hear me because He is alive and what is beautiful is that He responds. That is the basis of my joy and confidence in Him.
No other faith claims that its originator is alive like Jesus, as we claim in Christianity. Jesus was, is, and will be alive forever. That is why He is the only way to God (Jn 14:6…), the Truth and Life.
To all believers, the power of resurrection gives us the confidence to approach the throne of the Almighty God. We are no more servants but adopted children of the living God. To assure us that our confidence is not misplaced, God has given us the Holy Spirit as a companion in our earthly journey.
In a world filled with challenges such as health, financial, security, etc. we can rely on the promise of Jesus in Mt 11:27-28 to give us rest from all our unnecessary worries. The Bible is a testimony of our forefathers of faith, who had relied on these promises and had sustained them in their faith (Hebrews 2). Today, resolve to put your faith in the abiding presence of God through the Holy Spirit. He has never failed. No power can be more than His. He is the ultimate power. This is the reason for our implicit and explicit confidence in Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I am so grateful for Your care over me and all that you have blessed me with. Let my testimony of Your goodness bring more honour and glory to Your name. Amen
