THEME: Security in Christ
PASSAGE: II Peter 1:5–11
HYMN: MHB 441 RICHES unsearchable
MEMORY VERSE: II Peter 1: 11 “And you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
In our text today, Apostle Simon Peter gives us seven spiritual calculations that guarantee our security in Christ Jesus.
They are: virtues+knowledge+temperance+patience+godliness+brotherly kindness+agape love = guaranteed security in Christ.
Shortage of all these is equal to barrenness or unfruitfulness in the knowledge of Godhead.
The privilege God gives Christians is to tower above the world. God desires that every virtue that is in Christ that made Him overcome Satan and the world are available to His followers. Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He applied faith in all He did, and along with faith. He added the virtues which Apostle Peter, one of His closest disciples, arithmetically calculated in the text today.
This indicates that faith alone does not make us complete in the Christian race. It is necessary to add other virtues, which are moral excellence to glorify God by our way of lives; knowledge of the Word of God; to be heavenly minded; self-control in all things; perseverance during challenging times; godliness; kindness; and, above all, love for God and neighbour.
Those outside Christ do not have the privileges to possess the virtues. The fool, who denies the existence of God, will not even seek to have them because the Word of God is foolishness to those that are perishing.
Do not be myopic in the Christian race, but be a farsighted person. You have to be wiser than those who do not have Christ as their mentor. Anyone who has not had a genuine encounter with Jesus will not share from these privileges, too. Be a true and committed disciple of Christ. Certainly, He will guide your steps aright.
PRAYER: Give me grace, eternal Father, and as Your protégé, help me not to miss Your companionship and firm grip all the days of my life. Amen.
