METHODIST REFLECTION FOR TODAY
THURSDAY 3RD DECEMBER, 2020
THEME: Are You Qualified?
PASSAGE: Colossians 1:3-14
HYMN: MHB 252 GOD is with us, God is with us,
MEMORY VERSE: Colossians 1:12 “Giving thanks to Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
MESSAGE
Though Paul had never seen the Colossian Church in person, he had heard a good report about them from Epaphras, a fellow prisoner of Apostle Paul at the writing of this Epistle in Rome. You can sense his love for them in the first few verses of this letter. Paul made it a must for him to pray for this Colossian Church every time and whenever he prayed he gave thanks. Why? Because he had heard many good things about this Church both by reputation and from the reports brought by Epaphras.
Christianity is not just a mere religion. It is expected of every believer to reach the point of being found qualified by God. A very close examination of Paul’s seven-fold prayer for the Colossian Church in verses 9-12a, it was revealed that before God made someone worthy and qualified he/she has done things worthy as believers.
There are some attributes that will qualify us like the Colossians in this epistle, before God. They are:
To have personal knowledge of God;
Spiritual wisdom and understanding;
Living a life worthy of Jesus;
Bearing fruit by good work ;
Strengthened by God’s power. You also must have endurance, patience, longsuffering, thankfulness and joy (Gal. 5:22-26).
As we are 22 days to Christmas Day, we must let the people know that without Christ, they are not qualified to ask or receive anything from God. They are also not qualified to be partakers of the blessings which true believers in Christ are qualified to receive. Every born-again Christian has an equal right with Jesus Christ as co-heirs of the Kingdom of God (Romans 8:17). No unbeliever has such right. So, are you qualified?
PRAYER: Lord, make me adequately qualified to be with You in Heaven at the end of my life in this world in Jesus’ name. Amen.
