MESSAGE
To shun an ungodly associate is to do away or avoid mixing up with somebody or people that disobey God. This implies that one must neither copy nor condone immoral attitudes or practices for any reason. God warned the Israelites several times not to intermarry nor make a covenant with any of the seven mighty nations that occupied the Promised Land to avoid being lured into idolatry and immorality that would consequently incur the wrath of God on them. The essence of this warning is for them to avoid a bad company that corrupts good manners. In the same vein, Paul warned the Corinthians to desist from being yoked together with unbelievers (2 Cor. 6:14-18). There is no relationship between God’s temple and idols nor any communion between light and darkness.
Unfortunately, negligence of this warning today has ruined many marriages, homes and ministries of both the Clergy and the Lay. Ungodly partnership leads to wrong decisions and choices in marriages that culminate in separation and divorce.
Dinah was a victim of rape as a result of moving with ungodly people (Gen 34:1-14) and today most Christians have been regrettably influenced by those that are involved in drunkenness, immorality, cultism, idolatry, promiscuity, robbery, kidnapping, killings, child trafficking, corruption and other social vices because of this unwholesome companionship.
The Word of God and The Holy Spirit will help us shun and expose the works of darkness and be disciplined at any time (Ps 119:9; Eph 5: 11). We need to imitate Jesus in doing the will of God and bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22-26), and going against youthful lusts (2 Tim 2:22-23). Are you already in an ungodly relationship? Cut it off now before it destroys you. A broken relationship is better than a broken marriage (Mark 9: 47-48).
An ungodly relationship can lead to hellfire; shun it now that you are alive, tomorrow is uncertain.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for warning me beforehand to shun an ungodly relationship. Heal broken marriages and grant us the power to be holy in this adulterous generation and never to be influenced by ungodliness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
