THEME: POWER OVER DEATH
PASSAGE: ACTS 20:1-12
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 20:10 “But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, do not trouble yourselves for his life is in him.”
HYMN: MHB 216 (126.96.36.199.4.) – JESUS lives thy terrors now.
From our human perspectives, we see death as being so powerful that it defies scientific knowledge and medical powers. But from the divine realm, there is a power that is more powerful than the power of death, that if one possesses that power one will have power over the power of death.
In our passage today, Paul stopped-over at Troas, on his way to visit the churches in Philippi and Thessalonica, to wait for Titus whom he earlier sent to Corinth (2Cor 2:12-13). Paul had a discussion with the brethren on the Word of God and the meeting went on till midnight. A young man named Eutychus was sitting in an open window of the upper room, where they were having the meeting. Eutychus slept off, fell down from the window and died instantly. Paul embraced the corpse and restored the young man to life by God’s supernatural power.
Brethren, as we celebrate the meeting of Jesus with His Disciples in Galilee on a day like this, we should also know that the power, which raised Christ from the dead, was also the power that brought Eutychus back to life. The same power is there to bring to submission every power that is threatening your life, family, ministry, business and any aspect of your life.
Remember that Jesus said that all powers in heaven and on earth have been given to Him and He gave the church such powers. If you have Jesus in your life, you have the power over death. You will command any dead thing in your life, family and business and they will obey you. As it happened in Paul’s time, it can happen right now in your life and ministry. The resurrection power of Christ is very much alive in every believer to exercise. Apostle Paul, a man of like passion as we are, used it and it worked for him. Use it too, and it will work for you.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for the victory over death. Grant me oh Lord, the consciousness of Your power over death and the victory and the power I have in You, in Jesus Christ’s name.
