THEME: HE CARES
PASSAGE: PSALM 55:16-22
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
HYMN: MHB 594 (S.M.) – LORD, in the strength of Grace.
This Psalm was written by David during the time his son, Absalom, and his most trusted adviser, Ahithophel, rebelled against him by seeking to take his throne. Rather than remain downcast or forlorn, David turned his trust in God who has the capacity to care for him. God’s love for His people manifests across all dispensations. Like many believers today, David was fearful of his growing number of enemies, overwhelmed by his many troubles and sinking into a bottomless slough of despondence. In spite of his overwhelming difficulties, David knew that the best thing to do was to turn his eyes onto the Lord and to cast his burdens upon Him.
God’s care is all-encompassing (Matthew 6:30-32); God’s care is unconditional (Romans 5:8); God’s care is personal (Isaiah 43:1), and God’s care is invitational (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 115:12.).
Today we, too, are increasingly overwhelmed by torrents of foes, oppression, betrayals, and threats within and without, which cause many fears and fainting but the Word of God continues to tell us not to fear, for the Lord, our God, is with us. Whatsoever happens and whatever arrows are fired at us, we are encouraged to cast all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us. In troubles, sickness, sorrow, difficulties, loneliness and need, He cares for us.
God cares about our emotions and feelings. He cares about our anxieties, our mental and emotional health. We can go to God with all our worries, anxieties and fears and trust Him with everything.
Casting our cares on God is a way of humbling our hearts, dealing with pride and saying that we cannot handle everything that is going on in this life. He has answers to all problems whether big or small but He wants us to ask Him. Tell everything to Him because He cares.
PRAYER: Gracious Lord, I trust in Your Word. Grant me divine direction so that I may not fail, in Jesus’ name.
