HYMN: MHB 186 (8.8.8.8.8.8.) – O LOVE divine! What has hast Thou done?
MESSAGE
Christ’s love has been said to be without description, but many people take it for granted. Paul said there is a dimension to this love of God by measurement in Ephesians 3:17b-19, “ that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height; to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” The Ministry of Jesus Christ is that of reconciliation (2 Corinth), a humane, compassionate, and of the excellency of the power of God.
But we have not been able to explore it to the fullest, because it surpasses our comprehension. Why? There was no reason to justify it, that Christ should die for us even while we were yet sinners. Our redemption does not make Him be more God neither is it a criterion for Him to be called God. In fact, God told Moses when the children of Israel were misbehaving that He would destroy all of them and make a new generation of people through Moses, but he begged the Lord not to do that. If He had done that, no one will or can question Him about it.
Christ’s decision to take our place was deliberate and without any ulterior motives. He took our place when we had been sentenced to death for our sins. It was LIFE for LIFE! He still prayed for those who condemned, tortured, and nailed Him to the cross, that God, the Father should forgive them. How many of us can do this? When love is expressed it is just courteous for it to be responded to and that is why, your only response to this reckless, measureless and unparalleled love is to Love Him back in a measure that we discussed yesterday.
PRAYER: Father, I appreciate Your deep, wide, and immeasurable love for me. Help me to reciprocate this by loving You more, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
