THEME: BEWARE OF FALSE TEACHING
PASSAGE: GALATIANS 4:8-20
MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 4:17“They zealously court You, but for no good, yes, they want to exclude you, that you may be zealous for them.”
HYMN: MHB 491 (22.214.171.124.) – CHRISTIAN, seek not yet repose.
Today’s devotional is a call to always remain true to our calling in Christ. Paul the Apostle was admonishing the Galatian brothers and sisters not to turn away from the true teachings of our faith. This call is on us and for us today who believe. God has known us by our confessions as believers. We must remain firm and not go back to the world or be swindled or swayed by every wind of doctrine (Eph 4:14).
We should no longer turn again to the weak and beggarly elements of our past. Otherwise, we are going back into bondage. Let us accept good teachings, follow them and maintain or rather sustain them. When we grow in God’s abundant grace, we become a source of joy to our fathers in the faith. They rejoice greatly in our maturity and spiritual development. Paul bore witness in the Church in Galatia that they loved the Lord and would do anything for Him. He was therefore surprised that they went back. When a dog, which used to wag its tail in appreciation of someone, suddenly begins to bark at the same person, something is definitely wrong somewhere. He, therefore, cautioned them to remain true and bold and never disappoint him so that his work in their midst would never be in vain.
Today, we are called not to receive the grace of God in vain. Let us remain firm in what we know is the truth. We should avoid eye service (v.18). We should be zealous for God and serve Him with commitment. Resolve today to remain firm and continue to grow in grace. Do not follow the wrong teachings of the world or go back to the ways you once rejected like the Galatians. It is very dangerous to backslide or to do what the church at Ephesus did to lose heaven in Revelation 2:4. That will not be our portion in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER: Lord, help me not to derail from my faith in You. Teach me to always follow You and never to follow the false teachers.
