REFLECTION FOR TODAY
TUESDAY 6TH JULY, 2021
THEME: DON’T GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
PASSAGE: EPHESIANS 4:24-32
MEMORY VERSE: Ephesians 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
HYMN: MHB 290 (220.127.116.11.) – GRACIOUS Spirit, Holy Ghost.
If you have a guide to lead you in an unknown land and you decide not to follow his biddings, he may get frustrated and angry. If by any means the guide leaves you to find your way, you are likely to miss your way and end up in a bad situation. Disobedience to your guide will bring grave consequences. The same thing is with the Spirit.
Our meditation today has to do with who we are in the Lord and the importance of the Holy Spirit in our Christian lives. The Holy Spirit brings us into adoption by which we can cry Abba Father (Rom. 8. 15). His function at the point of the new birth is very important. First, He convicts us of our sins and grants us forgiveness when we repent. He goes on to guide and teach us all things which we have learned and heard from the Lord or read from the Bible and He leads us to eternal life. The Holy Spirit is the seal of the Father upon us. He imparts into us the spiritual gifts which are divine endowments, unique and special to everyone, according to our measure of grace. He comforts us and helps us to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Our obedience to the Holy Spirit is therefore very important. Disobeying the One who initiated us into a process can leave us in a very precarious position.
In order not to grieve the Spirit, we need to avoid lying, anger, stealing, speaking evil and corrupt words, immoralities, etc (Eph. 4:25ff). All these grieve the Spirit and separate us from Him. They can lead us to perdition and destruction. Whoever you may be, keep in touch with the Holy Spirit. Live by Him and you shall inherit eternal life.
PRAYER: Father, I request for daily prodding and close-marking of the Holy Spirit to guide me continually into everlasting life. Grant this humble request, Lord, for I pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
