MESSAGE
Everyday in our adult life, we are required to make decisions. These are either voluntary or compulsory decisions. Whichever it is, no one wants to make the wrong decision. This is because every decision has its consequences, good or bad. So how do we make the correct judgment that leads to the right decision at all times? King Solomon saw the need to make the correct decisions as a king and he requested an understanding mind in 1 Kg. 3:9.
Understanding is when you interpret available facts correctly. But how can you interpret correctly if you are not helped? Job 3:8 says, ‘the inspiration of the Almighty gives understanding.’
Since man is incapable of seeing into the future, the best he can do is to rely on facts that are hidden in knowledge. However, interpreting or using these facts or knowledge in the most useful way depends on wisdom. Every man desires to make the correct decision. It becomes necessary for man to seek the understanding that is hidden in knowledge.
As Solomon requested, we also should seek this most desirable requirement from God. God has put all the facts we require in His words. Ps. 119:18 says “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law. Ps.119:99, and Ps. 119:130. The Psalmist triumphantly rejoiced at the understanding which God’s law gives, and the successes it helps people to achieve. God’s Word gives us understanding and understanding gives us good success in our everyday decision.
Therefore, to get this all-important understanding, study the Word of God “to show yourself approved unto God” (2 Tim. 2:15).
PRAYER: All-knowing God, equip me with Thy wisdom to understand and perceive Your thoughts of goodness in every aspect of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
