MEMORY VERSE: Jeremiah. 17:7-8 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord; whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its root by the stream; it does not fear when the heat come. Its leaves are always green.”
HYMN: MHB 352 (S.M.) – OPPRESSED with sin and woe.
Our reading today, states a rebellion by the Israelites due to the majority’s evil report of their incapability to meet the challenges facing them. It was Israel’s 9th of their 12 complaints and the second rebellion against Moses, Aaron and of course, God Almighty. In spite of the encouragement given by Caleb and Joshua’s minority report about how God had given them victory over earlier challenges, they were bent on going back to Egypt! To them, this looks bigger and God was incapable to meet this one.
This attitude of disbelief in God’s presence and power has its consequences and they all suffered for it. Those that rebelled did not enjoy the promise of reaching the Promised Land. As children of God who have been redeemed by His grace and power, don’t we all place limitations on the extent of God’s intervention and power in the challenges we go through? Most times, we doubt and we hold God’s hand by our unbelief.
Our forefathers of faith had an unshakable belief in the ability of God to deliver on His promise to us. If you read our passage again it shows Caleb challenging the Israelites to please God and then wait for His intervention.
Instead of trusting God and waiting for His unfailing solution, we try to make Him angry. We grieve Him. In our daily walk with God, our faith in the atoning blood of Jesus should produce the fruit of the Spirit which is like a sweet-smelling savour to God. We expect and believe that God is abundantly able and willing to safely take us day by day through our earthly journey. No matter the challenges we may face, He is there for us every time.
So today stay in His love and enjoy His continued presence and power in your life.
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to always trust in You for all my needs.
