THEME: NO LOSS OF LIFE
PASSAGE: ACTS 27: 21-26
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 27:22 “And now I exhort you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.”
HYMN: MHB 515 (18.104.22.168.D.) – THY way, not mine, O Lord.
Paul was on a journey to Rome purposely because he had appealed to appear before Caesar. He was put into a ship that was about to sail to Italy (Acts 26:30-32; 27:1). We should not forget that as an Apostle of Christ, Paul functioned in the four other Ministry gifts which are teaching, prophesying, shepherding and evangelizing.
He warned the centurion about the danger ahead in setting on the voyage at that particular time, but the centurion failed to heed his warning (Acts 27:9-12). Failure to heed Paul’s advice cost all the people with whom he was sailing loss of all they had and loss of the ship in which they were sailing (Acts 27:13-19,22). Bible Commentary makes us understand that there were up to two hundred and seventy-five (275) people on board the ship.
The good news about this happening is that God is merciful and gives room for a second chance. Despite your disobedience to His instructions, statutes and warnings, He is still offering you a second chance to still walk with Him in obedience and righteousness. That is why when all others that were journeying with Paul had lost all hope of surviving, the angel of God was standing by Paul to assure all other travellers that there shall be no loss of life (Acts 27:23-25).
It is the promise of God that His elects shall not suffer loss and He never fails His promise. However, your disobedience can prevent the Almighty God from fulfilling His promise. It is, therefore, very pertinent for you to amend your ways with your Creator so as to live a glorious and successful life filled with lots of good things and testimonies (Job 22:21-28). You cannot continue in sin and assume that the grace of God will abound (Romans 6:1).
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I thank You for the opportunity You have given me again in spite of my shortcomings. Give me the grace to see You more clearly, love You more dearly and follow You always day by day. Amen.
