TUESDAY 19TH OCTOBER, 2021
THEME: JESUS IS LORD AND CHRIST
PASSAGE: ACTS 2:22 – 36
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 2:36 “Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
HYMN: MHB 438 (22.214.171.124.8. – JESU, my Lord, my God, my All.
Peter, in our text for today, makes his first apostolic sermon after the Pentecost and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. With boldness, he addresses the people of Judea and of Jerusalem. He said they were not drunk as some have suggested, referral to the prophesy of Joel (Joel 2:28 ff). He builds his address to a climax that God raised up Jesus whom the Jews nailed on the cross. God gave Him all authority, power, and honour.
Jesus means Saviour, another form of Joshua or Jehoshua, while ‘Lord’ means Sovereign, Jehovah (Hebrew Yhaweh) or the Eternal One. Christ means Anointed One. The apostle Peter did not proclaim Jesus only as Saviour; he also preached Jesus as Lord, Christ and Saviour, never dividing His Person or His offices.
Jesus is both Lord and Christ. He changes our lives, powerfully shapes us as His followers, helps us overcome temptation, provides for our needs, heals our diseases, comforts our weary hearts, and enlightens our minds. All these make us more effective witnesses!
Beloved, I humbly admonish you to always be guided by the three A’s of Christian service: Anywhere, Anytime, and at Any cost. The lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives involves our willingness to go where He sends us, when He sends us, regardless of the cost. Is Jesus the Lord of your life? Can you honestly say, “Anywhere, Lord! At Anytime, and at Any cost, Lord I am ready to preach the good news of Christ?”
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I declare that You are my Lord. I surrender my life to You. Show me how I can serve and please You to the end of age. Amen.
