THURSDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2021
THEME: WISER THAN THE ENEMY
PASSAGE: PSALM. 119: 97 – 104
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 119:98 “You through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me.”
HYMN: MHB 303 (126.96.36.199.D.) – O WORD of God incarnate
The passage for us today has double application – the unknown Psalmist and the Messiah. Because the writer hates evil and runs away from the wicked, and stays with saints, we may identify with the Messiah, our Lord who suffered similar fate.
If you want to know the secret of human beings, study the Word of God. It is full of situations we encounter daily either in the family and the society. In the passage read, the Psalmist mentioned the law of God which is the Bible. He joyfully delights and meditates in the word through daily meditation (Jos. 1: 8 – 9).
Thomas Manson observed that the enemy excel in policy, teachers in doctrine and ancients in counsel, but a believer who knows the Word of God is better equipped than the clever person, learned or experienced people who do not know the Word of God. The Word (Jesus) gives direction on the right path because it connects one directly to God.
Everyone wishes to be wiser than the enemy, but some do not know the secret to achieve it. The Word of God is at our disposal to gain knowledge and wisdom. It keeps us away from sin (Ps. 119: 9 – 11). It is a lamp to our feet and light to our path (Ps. 119: 105). The enemies always have their way to attack when we slack in faith (Matt. 13: 26), when we are unwatchful, and fall into temptation and sin.
For you to be wiser than the enemy, see that no day passes away without meditating on the Word of God. The Word is the secret to success in your life’s pursuit, parenting, choice of career, marriage partner and more importantly, it leads you to eternal life.
PRAYER: Glorious Lord, infuse in me the Spirit of discernment in my relationship with people, and give me grace to be watchful, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
